London-based ensemble Bas Jan has released the video for “Profile Picture“.
The band will re-issue their sophomore album ‘Baby U Know‘ (released last year) on March 17. Pre-order it here.
A heady collision of Raincoats-esque indie and ESG-paced rhythms fed through a kaleidoscopic pagan folk filter. The follow up to their critically acclaimed 2018 debut ‘Yes I Jan’, is a wordy slice of state-of-the-art social commentary wrapped in a perfectly-balanced soundscape that veers from funky minimalism to baroque dream pop.
Newly revisited, it includes an unreleased RAGGS ‘Profile Picture’ remix from prolific post-punk guitarist, Rachel Aggs. Known for collaborative projects with Sacred Paws, Shopping and Trash Kit, Rachel Aggs has been a major influence on London’s and Glasgow’s DIY scene and is a close associate of the band. This new remix brings a heady dance-floor touch to their up-beat off-kilter track..
Watch it below.
With a hint of Ari Up styled vocals backed by a harmonious chorus of concern touching on everything from incantations, essential causes and systematic shopping, all underpinned by a raking violin and bewitching electronic hum.
Bas Jan is the vehicle for well-established musicians Serafina Steer, Emma Smith, Charlie Stock and percussionist Rachel Horwood.
