French post punk band Metro Verlaine have revealed the details of their forthcoming album ‘Pop Sauvage‘.
Recorded on the Basque coast under the leadership of Charles Rowell (Crocodiles), the follow-up to 2022’s album ‘Funeral Party‘, will be out on February 9 through Le Cèpe Records. Pre-order your copy here.
According to the press release, Pop Sauvage is a road trip on acid, feet to the floor, tracking down the slightest ray of sunshine lost in the grayness of memories. The record traces its surfy pop route in the wake of 60’s west coast groups. We have previously heard the lead single “Birthday Party“.
California then, but not that of flower power, because here it is the magnificent loss that is celebrated, the solo pogo, the eyes filled with tears of rage, all chanted in French by Raphaëlle who takes out her fists on the very post punk Hooligan or even Amour d’Été lovers’ boxing match on an old-fashioned slow song. A disc for the road and whatever the destination, all that matters is the journey.
