Soaked Oats Reveal New Single "Headline Opinion"

New Zealand indie/sludge-pop rockers Soaked Oats have revealed their new single “Headline Opinion“.

The song is taken from their upcoming debut studio album ‘Working Title‘, set to be released on Friday 18th November via Dot Dash. Pre-order your copy here.

Headline Opinion’ explores the fascinating and sometimes disingenuous global absorption of news and information in today’s oversaturated climate. The track seems to rotate around the same guitar and backing vocal motif like an incessant regurgitation of information, as lead singer Oscar Mein tersely narrates. As the song progresses, the band’s tonal friction tightens, like a gradual overload of pressure.

Of the song, Mein says, “’Headline Opinion’ is a song about the news. How we serve it, how we consume it, how we regurgitate it, how we serve it again and…”

The accompanying video features old newspaper headlines & clippings compiled by Mein gathered from decades of old microfilm.
