The Slow Readers Club Unleash New Single "Boy So Blue"

Manchester indie electro/doom pop band The Slow Readers Club have unleashed their new single “Boy So Blue” and its accompanying lyric video.

The stunning, statement song, is energetic, cautionary, audacious and intricately crafted. The complex and richly emotive floor filler features on their upcoming album,Out Of A Dream‘, due out on March 14. Pre-order your copy here.

Completing a brace of rearranged dates this month, taking in The Academy in Dublin and Belfast’s Limelight, the band has also announced they will precede their five date April tour across Holland and Germany with ten UK-wide album launch shows. Opening at The Met, Bury on March 1 the intimate, full-band shows will also take place in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, London and Nottingham. Scroll down to see the dates.

Coupling that visceral Readers live experience with painstaking studio work to create bolder, even more atmospheric worlds of their own, Boy So Blue follows the drama of previous singles, Technofear and Animals. Cloaking upset with uproar and seeing the sorrow behind a brave face, the precarious balance between introspection and glorious sonic abandon has been set.

Singer and lyricist, Aaron Starkie, says of the song:

“The electronic element of our sound evolves from song to song and album to album. As we’ve always been drawn to the sounds of early Depeche Mode, Erasure, New Order and LCD Soundsystem, we decided to put those influences front and centre. Although it’s a big, joyous dance track, it’s about hiding deep emotional pain and trauma and how hedonistic coping mechanisms, like drugs, alcohol, and womanizing, are just temporary distractions. They ultimately fuel a self-destructive cycle. There’s a deliberate contrast between the euphoria of the music and the melancholy of the lyrics, capturing the subject’s duality of light and darkness.”
