Blush Club Release New Single "Birthday Hat"

Glasgow indie rock/post punk band Blush Club have released their new single “Birthday Hat“.

‘Birthday Hat’ is a song about being sad on your birthday. Think Lesley Gore’s “It’s My Party”, but with more guitars. Party blowers signal the start of the track, which quickly erupts into an energetic, catchy hook.

This sense of fun and chaos carries through the track, with singer Hamish Swanson’s off-kilter lyricism tumbling along over the insistent groove. ‘Birthday Hat’ feels like the perfect bittersweet anthem to be played on repeat as the summer ends.

Recent singles ‘Calamity’ and ‘True Terror’ saw them return with a new swagger and confidence, honing their skills and presentation. Each track showcases an exciting mix of catchy social commentary and poignant, poetic social narration with a witty edge, tied up neatly with angular guitars and a driving rhythm section.

With last year’s EP ‘Ornamental Ponds’ (2022), Blush Club have developed their own brand of intelligent post punk, letting the band’s pop sensibilities and sophisticated observations shine through.

The song is out now via GoldMold Records. Grab it here and take a listen below.

Blush Club are: Cameron Duncan (drums), Conor Heafey (guitar), Craig Carrington-Porter (bass), Phil Smith (guitar) and Hamish Swanson (vocals).
