Manchester-born/ Paris-based indie/synth pop/electronic artist David Shaw and The Beat has aired his new single “The Mechanic Of Your Power“, alongside a music video.
Commenting on the track, David shared:
“October 2023, another late night in the studio, it was raining heavily, big storm.
This « ambient » sequence was running from the MS20, with no beat, and I just stared at the window with this voice going round in my head « It’s the mechanic of your power »
Like the urge you have to tell someone, the power they have over you, that electrifying feeling.
How much you desire them, how much it burns inside.”
Of the video, directed by Sarah-Lou Sasha Maarek, he added:
When I wrote the Mechanic Of Your Power, I knew i wanted a 3D / (bad) CGI Video for it, but hadn’t met the right person yet. We shared our mutual respect and enthusiasm about each others work, around Summer 2023
January 2024, I called her up and told her that I had the song, that would be the perfect fit.
She loved the track and from then on, just pure chemistry.
She came up with the idea of a dual aesthetic, dark and authoritarian, inspired by constructivism, exploring various scenes blending sensual hallucinations and terrifying surrealism, through the lens of a BDSM relationship. We then spent long hours on the phone, sharing all our cinema, books, art refs and it just kept growing. Every test she sent me, I was floored. How she got the song, and what I’m about.
