Brighton psychedelic-punk/post punk band Egyptian Blue have returned with their new single “Geisha” and its accompanying video.
The song is out now through Yala Records and is another taste of their highly anticipated debut album (TBA). Get it here.
Geisha is as big as it is bold, embracing new soaring soundscapes: it’s a serious statement of intent and a departure from the band’s previous post-punk leanings. A psyche-tinged punk attack driven by Luke Phelps propulsive bass combined with Isaac Ide’s tight percussion, underpinned by dual frontmen Andy Buss and Leith Ambrose jagged guitar playing adding to the angsty and foreboding lyrics with Buss professing ‘’I live for only you’’ making a magnetising collage of sounds.
Speaking about it, Andy says:
“It’s a change in our sound. I recorded it on my laptop, brought it to the band and Isaac shifted the rhythm of it completely. Initially that shift changed my feelings about the track, but we persisted and it became a completely new entity in the studio. Now it’s one of our favourites and we wanted it to be the first track back. Lyrically it’s about coming to terms with an incessant cycle of day turning into night; where beautiful parts of life can become bleak so quickly…”
