Fast Money Music Reveals New Single/Video "Hunky Dory"

Fast Money Music, the solo project of East London-based musician/producer Nick Hinman, has revealed his new single/video “Hunky Dory“.

The track features on his upcoming sophomore EP, ROUGE, out this Friday, Aug 30th. Grab it here.

ROUGE, is the instinctive and natural progression of Nick Hinman’s project. It’s a broad stroke of raw power and cheeky realism, mixing a brooding shade of red into its palette of playful vocals, pulsating synths, as well as jagged guitars and wailing saxophone. Lyrically, the EP explores themes of self-control, lust, jealousy, and redemption; the fact-finding forward-facing process many of us choose to ignore.

Hunky Dory is a fun love tune inspired by Postcard Records and UK jangle pop bands of the early 80s. With an infectious guitar hook and four-on-the-floor drive, the track builds layers of nuanced strings, synth and percussion for an intricate and bouncing groove. Coupled with the velvety sax of John Waugh of The 1975, the tune is equal parts Orange Juice and The Strokes, all washed down with a glass of David Bowie’s ‘Young Americans’. The message is simple: Everything is (probably) going to be all right (forever).

ABOUT FAST MONEY MUSIC

Hailing from San Francisco, Nick Hinman took a winding path to end up across the pond in London, England. It all began one winter’s day in a closet-size Brooklyn apartment. Armed with just a tiny midi keyboard, and guitar, Nick started making demos for a new project, influenced by a melange of his favorites: The Jesus and Mary Chain, Alan Vega, New Order, Jonathan Richman, and Talking Heads.

After performing coast to coast in the US, including a support tour for Foster The People, singles produced Tony Hoffer (Beck, M83, The Kooks), and playing at notable festivals such as Austin City Limits, Nick set out for London to work on his first record under his new moniker FAST MONEY MUSIC (an ode the second Suicide record).

Shortly after arriving in the UK, “Stay at Home” orders were mandated and he was forced to quarantine. A light in the darkness of the global pandemic, Nick was able to remotely collaborate with Mikko Gordon (Arcade Fire, Gaz Coombes) and Sam Petts-Davies (Thom Yorke, Warpaint, The Smile) and finish his debut EP. The record also features drums by George Daniel (The 1975).

In addition to working on and composing his own music, Nick writes and produces for other artists and scores music from his studio based in Hackney, London.
