Swedish electronic / darkwave / electropop/ indie / new wave duo Hatif have released their new single “Direction” and its accompanying visuals.
The track serves as the last preview from their forthcoming album, Small States, set to arrive in Spring 2025 via Town And Towers Records. Grab it here.
Something is shifting. The ground underfoot isn’t as steady as it seemed. Following “Broken Bucket,” “Dreams Are Alive,” and “Take the Bait”, their new offering builds tension with cutting vocals, pulsing synths, and a throbbing beat.
“Direction” drifts between uncertainty and introspection, with a sense of restlessness running through it. The vocals circle around the subject, at times questioning, at times defining it, while steady, dense rhythms push the song forward, like something unfolding in real time.
As Small States approaches, “Direction” stands at the threshold. A visualizer accompanying the release reflects these ideas through shifting light and looping, fleeting sequences.

Made up of Markus Majdalani and Johan Eckerström, Hatif, formed in 2020. The duo is based in Stockholm with roots in Northern Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Their sound merges cold, dark synth tones with warmer, expressive melodies to create a unique and evocative sonic identity.
