Buxton-based indie rock/alternative artist Isaac Neilson has returned with his new single “Flying“.
Though it’s been a year since previous single ‘Dead Set Dance’, Isaac Neilson has turned his pen to a series of new songs, ready to perform around the country. Since his breakthrough in 2023, Neilson has hit his stride as a songwriter, reaching the semi-finals of the International Songwriting Competition and is on the long list for the Music Producer’s Guild “Self-Producing Artist of the Year.”
Having discovered the roots of his own voice, Isaac has gone from the relative safety of bedroom production to sharing festival stages with bands/artists such as Jake Bugg, Stereophonics, and The Human League.
Mired in doubt and yearning for lucidity, “Flying” is a track in perpetual conflict with itself as Neilson explores suicidal thought through the lens of escapism, wrestling with ideas about mental health through a window of impermanence.
Speaking about it, Neilson says:
“The lyric ‘All is fleeting nothing’s gonna break me down’ encapsulates the whole track. Musically it was a conscious effort to incorporate more grunge elements into my sound, pushing the genre into a more delicate direction; the soft piano acting as the antithesis to the raw vocal intensity and the growling guitars that backbone the track”.
