Cardiff-based indie / psych / alternative five-piece Midding have aired their new single “Clem’s Crime” alongside a music video.
The band will release their debut EP, Nowhere Near Today, on 7th February, via Tough Love Records. Pre-order it here.
Singer-guitarist Joe Woodward came up with the idea for the band while writing and recording songs on a 4-track recorder in his house, and he later recruited like-minded pals Elliot Roberts and Cam Wheeler. The three of them spent their nights experimenting with cassette recording, with the noble, if not challenging, aim to recreate Phil Spector’s symphonic sounds on a DIY budget. They were eventually joined by Eli Allison on second guitar and Nia Abraham on drums.
They began working more purposefully on the five-song EP at the beginning of 2024. The process was transformative for the group, their Spector-inspired ambitions now taking on a more defined shape that skirted around the edges of psych, noise-rock and industrial-pop in a way that increasingly became their own.
Nowhere Near Today is a record born both of private experimentation and public performance—who they are on stage and what they express on record
