Rey Pila Return With New Single/Video "Ani Oni"

Mexican darkwave / new wave / post punk band Rey Pila have returned with their new single “Ani Oni“, alongside an accompanying video.

The song, b/w “Fantasma” is out today (April 23), and marks a new post-pandemic era for the quartet (after taking a pause to work on other projects). Although they have returned to their dark synths and guitars with doses of darkwave, the tracks also has a pleasant surprise.

In an interview with TimeOut, vocalist Diego Solórzano, explained:

It wasn’t something we planned, but doors opened and opportunities appeared to get involved in new projects. Rosca has been playing for a while with different artists, such as Sean Wheeler and Mercedes Nasta. Güero formed a collaboration project, iiis, with Esteban Suárez from Chikita Violenta and Carlos Medina from Petite Amie, and I took Los Dynamite out of the drawer.”

It was a good experience to try other things and get rid of thorns. I think we are in a very good place today, both musically and personally. We’ve always been a very united family, despite all the setbacks that naturally occur in such intense coexistence. The pandemic, as well as each others side projects have helped us be more patient and have a better time doing what we like most. That is of unmatched value for us, and I think it is reflected in the new music.” He added.

Rey Pila “Ani Oni” Lyrics:

Victories can turn into bad advice
Victories suck my blood out dry
Silent room, scrolling up and down
Victory laps, victory maps, victory traps

Hold me, I don’t wanna be here
Please touch me
Let me know that you’re near don’t leave
I don’t care if we’re lost
Just hold me
Just hold me

I can’t sleep im grinding teeth so hard
Control freak
Burning bones tonight

Silent room, scrolling up and down
Victory laps, victory maps, victory traps

Hold me, I don’t wanna be here
Please touch me
Let me know that you’re near don’t leave
I don’t care if we’re lost
Just hold me
Just hold me
