Semihelix Share New Single/Video "Downstream"

Austin, TX dream pop/psych/jangle pop band Semihelix have shared their new single “Downstream“, alongside an accompanying video.

The track, produced and mixed by Matt Gerhard (Spoon, Future Islands, !!!), is the second taste of the forthcoming 7″ s/t EP due to be released in early 2024, featuring songs about resiliency, healing, overcoming trauma and other seemingly impossible situations, love, and social justice.

Speaking about it, the band stated:

The song is about letting go of negative patterns, and  focusing on gratitude. It’s about “out with the old, in with the  new” when it comes to releasing things that don’t serve us. It’s about releasing expectations, and floating down a calm stream in life; a note to self to slow down and take deep breaths and let go.

Semihelix are: Geannie Friedman (vocals, guitar, and piano), Mike Cota (bass), and Valdemar Barrera (drums).

The ’90s leaning dream and psychedelic pop trio formed in a cloud of fuzz and delay in 2012. With melodic, yet loud, sounds that harken to influences as broad as the Pixies, Black Tambourine, Sonic Youth, and even the Kinks, the band released their last full-length, Recoil, via Mariel Recording Company on October 1, 2021. The release garnered international recognition from tastemakers both near and far.
