Berlin-based new wave /goth rock/ alternative musician Spell Trouble has premiered his new single “Soft Fantasy“.
The track features on his forthcoming EP of the same name, out soon on Swiss label Irascible Music. He has previously shared debut single “Thorn Armor”. Get it here.
Spell Trouble, the brainchild of indie musician Maximilian Seifert, blends catchy and relatable indie with an unpolished, nostalgic new wave sound and introspective lyrics, creating a dark yet familiar soundscape.
Growing up in the alternative music scene of the late 2000s in the east of Germany and later moving to the electronic music melting pot Berlin has shaped his personal sound into an everlasting love for distorted guitar tones and surging synth sounds inspired by new wave bands of the late ‘70s and ‘80s. With a naive, punkish approach to play all instruments on his records himself, the sound andproduction couldn’t be more personal.
Starting of rather romantic, Soft Fantasy pushes listeners further down the rabbit hole. Nostalgic synths, melancholic lyrics and a driving drum machine pattern shape this alternative/darkwave title to a daydream to get lost in. Musically, it ends with a vibrant finale of voices full of reverberation and pulsed feedback noises.
