Newcastle-upon-Tyne indie rock/guitar pop/britpop band Stannington have revealed their debut single “Through You“.
Born from the dissolution of New Horror, Stannington formed in 2022. Since its inception, the band has seen some early lineup changes before settling on a five-piece consisting of Lewis Thompson (vocals), Mark McGarry (guitars), Joe Munsey (Beige Banquet, guitars), Louis Clark (No Teeth, bass), and Charlie Radford (Swine Tax, drums and percussion).
Recorded and produced at Byker’s Polestar Studios by engineer Alex Blamire and mastered by Stephen Bishop (Opal Tapes), the band captures their curated sound for the first time with ‘Through You’, showcasing their playful, sardonic Britpop sound.
The track’s repetitive, pleading vocal lines accompany chorus-laden guitars, clearly taking inspiration from jangle pop acts like the Field Mice or the Sea Urchins. The group’s rhythm section adds a drive more associated with the later output of The Smiths or The House of Love, providing a sense of pace and urgency which reflects the band’s roots in punk music.
The song is out now via Zeche Records. Get it here and take a listen below.
