French post punk/cold wave/post rock quintet Urge have shared their new single “Surrenders” and its accompanying video.
The song is out today, October 1st via Icy Cold Records and follows on from last month’s single “Desolated Auguries”. Grab it here.
Split between the Rose City, Paris and Copenhagen, Urge’s members come from varied and experienced formations such as Plebeian Grandstand, BRUIT et, Rallye, M83, Orme or Kid Wise.
“Surrenders” is a catchy and dark track that fans of Rendez Vous, The Cure, Interpol or Killing Joke should enjoy. Urge is self-proclaimed “primal cry of a generation confronted with the prospect of a dark future, refusing to succumb to a fate dictated by the clumsiness of the past”, and this single cannot illustrate such a statement better. The band’s Adrien Broué’s grave stamp settles with melancholy, until offering a climax to desperate bursts. Speaking about it, he explains:
“‘Surrenders’ dives into the complexities of vulnerability, where personal betrayal and obsessive thoughts coexist. This is a song that examines the painful intersections of memory and self-delusion, exploring the dissonance between what is desired and what is feared, and the cost of surrendering to either.“
