Belfast shoegaze / dream pop band Virgins have revealed their new single “b l o o m s” and its accompanying music video.
The song is out now via Blowtorch Records and follows on from their highly acclaimed debut album ‘Nothing Hurt And Everything Was Beautiful‘, released last year. Get it here.
Commenting on the single, they shared:
In August 2024 we went in to record a new single, ‘b l o o m s’. This time we had Si Francis (Ellie Goulding, Kylie Minogue, The Japanese House) at the helm. We spent two days at his studio in Belfast pulling things together. The video captures some of the moments in studio.
On ‘b l o o m s’ we redefine our sound while delving to new emotional depths. A sonic exploration of tension and release, accented by reverse delays and glide guitar. Lyrically, it’s explores themes of reflection and self-confidence.

About Virgins
Virgins transcend that reductive tag to deliver a noise which is thrillingly loud and weightily light. Michael Smyth at the hazy centre is joined by vocalist Rebecca Dow, David Sloan on rhythm guitar, Brendy McCann on bass and James Foy on drums. Virgins were born after a lust to satiate a musical thirst. A chance encounter with a Slow Crush record ushered Michael on the ethereal cloudy path of shoegaze; with a board of fuzz and reverb pedals he set out to create Virgins.
