WULL “In The Dawn”

Merseyside ‘dirty indie’/alternative / post punk quintet WULL have release their new single “In The Dawn“.

The track, recorded/produced by Alex Quinn (The Blinders, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club) is out now via Ditto Music. Grab it here.

Influenced by Shame, The Strokes, The Prodigy, Joy Division, The Smiths and Echo & the Bunnymen, WULL utilise the energy and attitude of the post-punk they were raised on and fuse it with urgent choruses that detail their deepest thoughts on everyday life.

Lyrically, ‘In The Dawn’ outshines all their previous works. WULL continue to evoke a distinctly melancholic atmosphere, but taking bold steps closer to an ‘epic’ sound and radiates personality via its potent lyrics, vocals and music. With influences that stretch beyond music, the band also incorporate references to the poet Edgar Allen Poe. Vocalist Ben Coles says:

“This song talks of longing for a love that currently only your dreams can give you. That pursuit of something that evades and haunts you in a day-to-day life, but at night your dreams revive you and show you a place where it exists, where it’s real.” Going on to explain that the song’s lyrics, ‘All I’ve loved, I’ve loved alone’ are a direct reference to Poe’s famous poem “Alone”.

‘In The Dawn’ unifies WULL’s childhood influences with the music that currently dominates their playlists. Shades of FONTAINES D.C. vibrate through the central guitar’s tremolo effect as the rest of the instruments evoke the aura of THE SMITHS in a dreamy arpeggio that runs throughout.
