British legendary shoegaze/ dream pop / indie band Chapterhouse have dropped a previously unreleased track called “See That Girl“.
The song features on ‘White House Demos’, the first ever Chapterhouse recordings from January 1989. Released on limited edition 12” vinyl and digital on May 9 through Sonic Cathedral. Pre-order it here.
These demos, recorded when they were still teenagers, were forgotten about – until the intervention of Slowdive guitarist Christian Savill. It features the first four songs that Chapterhouse wrote. Three of these songs were recorded again for future releases but ’See That Girl’ never saw the light of day until now.
“They were the first songs we wrote as a band,” says singer and guitarist Stephen Patman in a press release. “At the time our live set consisted of Stooges and ’60s garage-psych cover versions which we mixed with these original songs.”
“Soon after these tracks were recorded things started moving very quickly for us. We started touring and writing more songs, so ‘See That Girl’ just didn’t seem that relevant to us anymore. We probably felt that it was a bit too simplistic and juvenile. In retrospect, it contains an innocent charm and reveals our deep love for psychedelia.” He adds.
