Italian post punk /darkwave duo Kill Your Boyfriend has announced the release of their new EP ‘Disco Kills‘. The band have also shared the first single ‘Obsession‘, alongside a video.
Set to arrive on May 09 via Sister 9 Recordings, Disco Kills, sees the duo, made up of Matteo Scarpa and Antonio Angeli, experimenting with new sounds that lean towards electronic music, creating a more rarefied space for the guitars while maintaining the dark atmospheres that distinguish them. The EP was created from their desire to explore the hopes, obsessions, illusions, and disappointments of the many young people who frequent clubs and meeting places during the so-called “growth” years, at a point when everyone is still searching for their true selves.
It features 6 songs drawing inspiration from past greats such as Kraftwerk, Moroder, and New Order, while also keeping an eye on artists like the Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, and Paul Kalkbrenner. Pre-order it here.
Lead single, ‘OBSESSION‘, is a post-punk dance track that prompts contemplation on the overwhelming influx of stimuli from modern consumerist society, promoting an unhealthy dependency that disconnects individuals from their genuine needs. This cycle of constant consumption ultimately reduces life to a repetitive loop of birth, consumption, and death.
The duo have already confirmed a few European live dates over the next few months, with more TBA soon. See the d ates below.
The accompanying video, directed by Alice Lorenzon, emphasizes the superficiality and lack of fulfilment this lifestyle brings
