NYC-based post punk/shoegaze/dreampop/art pop band Mahogany have shared their new 12” single “A Scaffold” b/w “Polyvalence“.

The release is a glimpse into the sonic landscape of their upcoming EP, Cumulative Power, out this fall. Grab it here.

Both tracks center on the sylph-like vocals of singer-guitarist Jaclyn Slimm, with bass, drums, electronics, and rhythmic, layered 12-string work architected by founder Andrew Prinz.

On the songs the band’s Andrew Prinz says, ‘A Scaffold,’ and ‘Polyvalence,’ speak to a romance of perseverance and canny, defiant idealism — breathlessly driven, yet polished and adroitly serene.”

Mahogany has also announced East Coast tour dates in Philadelphia and Brooklyn in May and June. Upcoming shows are listed below.

Mahogany dovetails elements of post-punk, shoegaze, disco, and classical into futuristic, architectural, symphonic compositions. Duo Andrew Prinz and Jaclyn Slimm combine vocals, twin 12-string guitars, massive bass, densely-sequenced rhythms, and various synthesizers and samplers for an immersive effect known as the “Hypercube.”

Stream both tracks below.

The Mahogany discography already comprises two critically acclaimed full-length albums The Dream of the Modern Day and Connectivity!, as well as numerous singles, EPs, and compilation tracks collected on the double-disc set Memory Column: Early Works and Rarities 1996-2004. While producing, designing, and remixing for artists including Ulrich Schnauss, The Veldt, and Lovesliescrushing, more recent Mahogany work includes the expansive 8-minute maxi-single “Phase Break.”
