Atlanta’s local goth-adjacent post-post-punk heroes Split Diopter have dropped their new single “Navel Gazer“.
The track features on their upcoming debut album ‘To Bridge And Bind‘, due to be released on September 13 through DKA Records. Pre-order your copy here.
Split Diopter are Chuck Rosencrans of Atlanta’s rising darlings Dyskrasia on guitar and the humble but universally beloved Nathan Oestry on bass, joined by Matt Weiner, aka TWINS, manning the mic, synths and drum machines. Co-writing most of the music and splitting lyric duties between members, the imagery and sentiments evoked are firmly rooted in the screen and surveillance culture of now, but the timeless sense of good old existential malaise is equally present.
To Bridge and Bind’s musings on the fragmented self, false consciousness, and the fog of techno-paranoia are embedded in a palette familiar to enthusiasts of post-punk and all its goth- and industrial-ish iterations, but with a strong inclination towards the cybernetic and the futuristic. Joy Division comes to mind, as does Sisters of Mercy, and there’s bit of Bauhaus and The Damned, but the admixture here tends as much toward the hard-edged.
