Dublin dream rock/neo-psych/nugaze sextet Sun Mahshene have premiered the video for their newest single “Reverie“.
The track is came out last week and is the first taste of the band’s upcoming debut album ‘A Place We’ve Never Been‘, set for release early next year. Grab it here.
‘Reverie’ is proudly shoegaze, anthemic indie and grunge tinged alternative, all at the same time, yet it displays its core credentials boldly, with none other than RIDE’s Mark Gardener at the controls on mastering duties.
Lead singer Nathan Henderson said: ‘Reverie came out of lockdown when no one knew what was going to happen. So, we decided to write a song that would give us a purpose.’ While guitarist Rob added: ‘Reverie is a great taster for the album as it’ll show people what we’ve been up to and where we are going next.’
Of the song’s meaning he adds, “The song looks at how life throws so much at us we can lose focus on what the important things are: Friends, home, stability.” Featuring soul-baring lyrics and atmospheric instrumentation, ‘Reverie’ marks a big step forward from the group’s earlier psych-rock sound. Expanding on the traditional shoegaze soundscape it combines heavy guitars with blissed out, dreamy sections, utilising synth and ambient electronic elements, giving the listener a chance to pause and breathe before the inevitable hurricane assault of guitars resumes.
