Sydney-based indie / alternative artist total tommy has revealed her new single “SPIDER” and its accompanying video.
The track features on her anticipated debut album “bruises“, set for release November 29 through [PIAS] Recordings. Pre-order your copy here.
Bruises, written during a period in which she went through a breakup, moved cities, came out as queer and met her now-wife, it sees Holt’s bold, raw and witty voice on full display for the first time. There are a lot of different sides of total tommy on display across bruises: a romantic, a hedonist, a lost soul, a wise friend, an asshole, a sweetheart. What ties it all together is a newfound confidence; a sense of contentment and belief in exactly who she is, the kind that only comes from seeing what’s left after everything’s uprooted.
“SPIDER” is a swaggering, grungey track that total tommy describes as her personal favourite on the record. “I was writing one day and noticed a massive spider on the wall. It became the perfect metaphor for a clingy friend I needed space from,” she explains. “I’ve been obsessively listening to this track ever since, pushing the production heavier and heavier with each iteration.”
