Our featured album this week is “Steady“, the brand new record by Fort Worth, TX indie rock/synth rock/new wave band Black Tie Dynasty.
BTD formed in 2003 as the band Moxie and self-released a record called “Love and Death in Texas.” This lineup (Cory Watson, Brian McCorquodale, Blake McWhorter, Eddie Thomas) transitioned their sound from an alternative emo rock band to feature more of a synth pop-driven sound and changed their name to Black Tie Dynasty. Since then, the band has captivated audiences with their signature style of melodic synth-pop, creating a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim throughout their career.
They release their critically acclaimed debut LP, “Movements” via Idol Records in April 2006. Their sophomore LP ‘Down Like Anyone’, came out in 2008. The band broke up citing creative differences in 2009. Singer Cory Watson moved to NYC, and the band members continued to perform with various local acts.
Over the years, the band played some reunion shows and in 2020 they decided to reunite officially with a show planned for February 2020 in Ft. Worth, which never happened due to the pandemic. The bands drummer Eddie Thomas, had also recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma and passed away in December 2021. The band subsequently chose to honor BTD’s legacy and Thomas’s death by officially reforming to record their third album, dedicated to him.
Produced and mixed by Alex Bhore at Elmwood Recording Studios in Dallas, “Steady” represents a triumphant return for the band. With expressive lyricism, powerful vocals, and catchy melodies, this album highlights the band’s new wave, synth-pop, and indie roots, reaffirming their rise to stardom.
