Norwegian post-punk/art rock/indie dance band Datarock have premiered their infectious new single “DISCObedience” and its accompanying video.
The track features on their upcoming new album ‘Media Consumption Pyramid‘, due out on September 29 through YAP Records. Pre-order your copy here.
As they put it, “DISCObedience” is the third single from the dance-happy record that takes the acid-washed MADchester beats of Happy Mondays and Stone Roses and marries them with socially-conscious but celebratory messages and positivity.
UPDATE 8/21/2023: “DISCObedience” is our new Single of the Week!
“Hopefully one day, we’ll see one of these nonviolent, civic disobedience gatherings dancing to the beat of their very own soundtrack,” frontman Fredrik Saroea yearns, though he feels that their brand of ‘disco punk’ may be, “a bit too aggressive, high tempo and inspired by post-punk like Gang Of Four and No Wave artists like DNA and James Chance and the Contortions for Extinction Rebellion’s dance routines and tutorials,” he laughs. “What a clever and charming civic disobedience that riot police can’t aggressively shut down, right?”

“Media Consumption Pyramid is an eclectic collection of tracks dancing to the beat of our insatiable, undiscerning appetite for digital consumption – but it’s also a celebration of the fact that we got the entire original gang to come out to play (both in the studio and on stage) on top of solo careers, PHDs, taking care of kids and being grown-ups”, mastermind and frontman Fredrik Saroea says proudly. “That’s me on guitar and vocals, both Ketil Mosnes & Thomas Larssen on bass, Stig Narve Brunstad & Kjetil Møster on keys, and Øyvind Solheim & Tarjei Strøm on drums and percussion.”
