Grazer Unveil New Single/Video "Memory Screen"

Aussie indie pop/shoegaze/alt duo Grazer have unveiled their new single “Memory Screen” accompanied by a music video.

The song is the first taste of their forthcoming album “I Always Follow“, produced by Gab Strum (Mallrat, Gretta Ray, Cry Club), due to be released on September 20. Grab it here.

Made up of Mollie and Matt, Grazer formed amidst the lockdown uncertainty of early 2020, their dreamy soundscapes oscillate between the past and present – the melancholic atmosphere of 80s postpunk and the shoegaze revival of recent decades.

The band recorded their self-titled EP (2020) and early singles, produced by Rob Wolfe in a Carlton basement. In 2022, Grazer released their debut LP, “Melancholics Anonymous”, a genre-bending liberation of songs and memories collected over many years. “I Always Follow”, is the inevitable culmination of Grazer’s fascination with the tension between nostalgia and modernity.

“Memory Screen” is a bouncy, dream pop cut reminiscent of Men I Trust, Eyedress and TV Girl. The track is emblematic of the record which captures a nostalgic moment in time for Matt and Mollie; a romantic moment between longtime partners that you yearn to experience again, but if you stare too long into the memory screen you forget to live for now.

Speaking about it, they shared:

Memory Screen explores a sense of dislocation or detachment with the present.
When memories from the past bleed through, it’s like looking at the world from through a screen. We find ourselves in a loop of repeated days, poisoned by nostalgia and longing for a past that never was. In the struggle to reconcile past and present, we are inevitably drawn to the familiar faces of those we love. Rather than mourning the past, we can be grateful about the possibilities that the future still holds
