Irish post punk / punk band M(h)aol have released their new single “Snare” and its accompanying video.
The song is out now via Merge / TULLE and follows on from their single “Pursuit,” released earlier this year.
Based in Dublin, Belfast, and London, M(h)aol, made up of Constance Keane, Jamie Hyland, and Sean Nolan, have built a reputation for thrilling live performances, fostering an atmosphere that encourages community and catharsis regardless of where they play. “Snare” is a noisy and driving anthem that boldly defies gender expectations with sharp wit.
Lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane said of the song:
“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently. The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.”
M(h)aol have also announced a U.S. tour dates in New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle, and they will perform at this year’s SXSW Music Festival. The full dates are listed below.
