Leeds-based alt/art rock quintet Pleasure Centre have unveiled their new single “Heart“.
The song serves as the first taste of their forthcoming self-titled EP. Get it here.
Made up of a sharp cascade into melodic guitars and a driving rhythm section, “Heart” weaves into gliding choruses and a swelling bridge. Two guitars intertwine, adding both grit and distinction amongst a ballad of spoken word style lyricism. Filled with a constant fierce force; the vocals explode with angst and anger as the song’s progression climaxes into a familiar wall of noise, a hallmark of the band’s sonic qualities.
Speaking about it , they say:
“The opening guitar hook was an instant hit for us. When it came to putting it together in the practice room, the song fell out into the room, not much from there we wanted to change from its raw state. There are multiple new sounds we went for, the kraut inspirations have taken form in our own way with the guitar work on this song, not quite delving into a trance of repetition before the song switches again. The steady build to the final raging climax is something we do quite often yet with Heart we’ve gained a sense of closure going from such a ferocious place back to the main hook to seal off the song. The track is aggressive, it’s a bold opening statement, more direct than we’ve ever done before.”

About
Pleasure Centre formed in late 2019 by a group of childhood friends from North Yorkshire coast (Scarborough and Bridlington). The group explores cross-genre soundscapes both on record and onstage, crafting a sound to captivate audiences. From shared and continuous memories of growing up, moving out and navigating the world together; the band crafts songs dedicated to those experiences and emotions.
Taking influence from the alt rock movement between the mid 80’s and 90s (think MBV, Slowdive, The Jesus and Mary Chain) mixed with the catalogue of Radiohead and other modern contemporaries like Wolf Alice and BDRMM, the bands material spans across these inspirations, combined with the members’ own individualistic tastes, finding both delicate melodic moments and blissful walls of sound, branching out into ambient electronic corners and back.
Following the release of their debut EP in 2022, Pleasure Centre has reflected on and reformed their sound. From a year’s worth of writing sessions, the band worked with Leeds based producer Alex Greaves to record a new body of work at The Nave in the summer of 2023.
