Rare DM, the Brooklyn-based brainchild of singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Erin Hoagg, has dropped her new single “Skater Hits Me Harder” alongside a video.
The song is out tomorrow, Nov 8 via House of Feelings and it’s an intoxicating first taste of Rare DM’s next chapter. Grab it here.
Gothy, arpeggiated synths provide the song’s feverish pulse that, when paired with Hoagg’s winkingly sultry vocals, results in a hypnotically carnal cut about that good first-date feeling, the foreplay before the foreplay. Speaking about it, Hoagg says:
“’Skater Hits Me Harder’ is lyrically about banging someone and wanting to do it again, and about realizing that your last lover really sucked. But the feeling behind the song is that nothing is better than that first date kiss — someone holding your hand for the first time. When you don’t know if the date is going well but you have butterflies and are kinda nervous but then they grab your hand and you make out against fences on the way back to your apartment.”

Rare DM is a sonic force reshaping the landscape of NYC electronica. Armed with a collection of vintage analogue synthesizers and drum machines, she crafts intimate, alluring tunes that are a hallucinatory blend of black-shaded aesthetics and neon-lit dance-pop. Drawing inspiration from EBM, minimal techno, electroclash, post-punk, and bloghouse, her songs are propulsive yet deeply intimate, rendering in raw detail the search for that special connection we all crave, but rarely find.
