Austin, TX post punk /shoegaze / new wave band Single Lash have aired the video for their latest single “New Song“.
Featuring members of Future Museums and Thousand Foot Whale Claw, Single Lash’s drab cynicism is met by their signature wall of effects-drenched guitar and luscious synthesizers, giving this track both tonal and conceptual complexity.
The track features on their sophomore album ‘Ladida‘, released in October last year. Buy it here if you haven’t already.
Speaking about it, singer-songwriter Nicolas Nadeau says:
“It gets comfortable living in that same old darkness. Way too comfortable even as it’s painful. After a while the faintest flicker of light becomes almost blinding and your instinct just becomes to burrow deeper. This is about resisting that instinct. Or trying to, anyway. New Song in particular really resonated in that space. Sharing that moment with everyone in the pews really did feel spiritual, especially for a song that I wrote in the depths of lockdown isolation.”

Single Lash “New Song” Lyrics:
An ocean of tears
I’ve rowed each stroke of heartache
The crash of the waves collide upon the horizon’s moon- in love
I won’t sing anymore of despair- no
There’s a life that I want to explore with you
I’ve been given so much more than I deserve
I couldn’t perceive apart from me the contours of the shape that bends me
There’s this life that I want to explore with you
There’s a new song we can write to sing ourselves
You smile at me and I know
This is the one that breaks me (x4)
