London based rock n’ roll/garage band The Velvet Hands have unveiled the video for their latest single “Chick Habit (featuring Pythies)“.
The song, a cover of Serge Gainsbourg 1964 classic, features vocals from Lise Lechopier of French grunge band Pythies, came out last month (April 5). Get it here.
Loving the French cool 60’s pop of Gainsbourg, the band decided to record his hit, “Laisser Tomber Les Filles” ,( leave the girls alone), using the 1990’s version “Chick Habit” lyrics by American singer April March. The track is a protofeminist pane to women putting men in their place. As April March says “It’s about asking a jerky guy to stop being jerky with the ladies–or else!”
The video was filmed live at Supersonic in Paris, April 2024. Watch it below.
The Velvet Hands are Toby Mitchell, Dan Able, Louis Mitchell and Sam Hilder. Blending slacker story-telling with belting guitar riffs reminiscent of The Strokes or Parquet Courts with rousing punk choruses that recall The Clash, the band formed amidst Cornwall’s blistering garage-rock scene before relocating to London and making a name for themselves on the capital’s underground guitar circuit. Last year, the band released their second album ‘Sucker Punch‘.
