French post punk/cold wave/post rock/goth quintet Urge have dropped the video for their latest single “Of Georgics”.
The song is taken from their debut album “Here/after“, released last month (November 15) via Icy Cold Records. Get your copy here.
“Of Georgics” begins the album with a sensual slowness, weighed down by its usually somber tone. But there’s always room to dance when the choruses take over. It’s one of the quintet’s irresistible jewels, falling somewhere between Depeche Mode, Soft Kill, and The Cure. Singer Adrien Broué says:
“Of Georgics” is the first one we wrote with Urge. It’s a kind of introspective meditation that explores the tension between the transience of desire and the weight of regret. The heavy, almost ceremonial drums and ponderous bass create an oppressive atmosphere, while the guitars drown in reverb. The choruses break the torpor, giving a glimpse of revolt through the thick fog of resignation.“
In this video, Urge translates the intensity of his music through a game of visual contrasts and raw aesthetics. Strobe footage of the band in full performance captures the instruments and movements, leaving aside the faces as to better convey the emotional tension of the song. It follows a lonely character wandering in a deserted, austere urban landscape, creating an atmosphere of introspection. Faces imprinted with emotion emerge, as if overwhelmed by the weight of remorse. The result is an alternation of visual textures to accompany the song’s lyrics.
